The Bridgeport Trout Tournament 2012 We are in our eighth full year and have been directly responsible for stocking thousands of browns and rainbows into the local Bridgeport fisheries. The amount of browns caught in Bridgeport at last year’s opening weekend caused a buzz throughout the Sierra. Many of the 14-18 inch browns landed came directly from our two certified facilities. The Paradise Shores and Virginia Creek Settlement Projects are open to the public. Our caring volunteers are growing trout year round in modified tomato bins that are easy to approach, take pictures of, and feed. We have two major events that provide the Foundation with tax deductible donations. The Bridgeport Trout Tournament on June 23rd, 2012 is a family focused event that includes a goody bag, event merchandise (something new every year), quality trophies, prizes, and an indoor awards ceremony that includes a good old fashion dinner with all the trimmings. Some of our key sponsors were Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Eagle Claw, Mono County, Fishin’ Mission Foundation, Berkeley, Sep’s Pro Fishing, YUM products, Coors of Southern California, and the local merchants of Bridgeport. The Kid’s division is always our main focus and we bring each and every child to the stage, present them with a trophy or medal and submit a group photo to Western Outdoor News. In addition, every year we try and add something extra that may include a tackle manufacture for added opportunities to win cash or prizes. Look for details at Fridays sign in. We look forward to seeing you at the Bridgeport Trout Tournament on June 23rd, 2012 Thank you for your continued support!! | The 2011 Trout Tournament was a great success! Here's some info on how it went!! |
In the men’s division, Chino angler Fred Ciapponi landed the big fish honors with a 2lb 15oz Rainbow and the heaviest stringer honors went to Jacob Hurd of Chino Hills who weighed in at 6lbs 12oz. Also, the Men's $500 Bonus Entry Prize went to Cortland Mulliken of El Dorado Hills.
For the ladies division local angler Donna McMaster claimed the honors for the heaviest catch with a 2-pound, 12-ounce rainbow. The Women's $500 Bonus Prize went to Sabrina Benson of Adelanto.
The Overall Big Fish for the tourney went to April Benson of Adelanto, CA with a 3lb 12oz Rainbow, April also scored with the heaviest stringer of the tourney but due to tourney rules an angler can only win one major prize and April opted for the Big Fish Honors.
Top drawing prize for the day was a WON-sponsored 5-day Alaska salmon and halibut trip won by Bridgeport’s Ray Robles. Bakersfield angler Reuben Abney covered the expenses for his Eastern Sierra outing, taking home $500 for the right raffle ticket that all registered derby anglers had a shot at. Young Sunnyvale angler Logan Frey was one day too early with his 5-pound, 2- ounce rainbow that 24 hours later would have topped the derby field. Logan’s trophy went for a trolled blade/nightcrawler combination. Looking at the catching scene, all the fish weighed in for the derby came from Bridgeport Reservoir. Heavyweight Alpers rainbows and DFG stockers were stocked in the water shortly before the derby. Good numbers of stockers made a showing, but the Alpers fish didn’t show up at the scale. From the foundation standpoint, the derby raised right in the area of $4,500 earmarked for continued stocking of homegrown brown and rainbow trout for the Bridgeport area. “It was a great event, we’re seeing more anglers taking part each year,” said Foundation Chairman Mike Morrison. “The funding will help cover our expenses for future stocking that has been a real shot in the arm for Bridgeport area fishing.”
The 2011 BFEF Tournament was a great success, there were 91 entrants this year which is the most ever! We're looking forward to the 2012 Tournament breaking records again!! Below are some photos from the dinner, plan on attending next year!!
