Paradise Shores RV Park Trout Project
June, 2006

We are pleased to report the first major brown trout stocking for our Program. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our Paradise Shores RV Park management team of Eric and Michelle Gehrung, we have raised over 15,000 brown trout to over three inches in less than three months.

Our “tomato bin” project has produced a growth rate that has prompted the stocking program earlier than expected. During the month of June, our committee has separated over 4,000 trout from our bin and stocked them directly into Bridgeport Reservoir. The stocking location was chosen to provide maximum cover and protection to give our young brown trout a fighting chance. We carefully conditioned the trout to the warmer water and stocked them in small batches. The immediate results were encouraging as we watched the trout feeding on a midge hatch as soon as they hit the water. We did not observe any dead or floating trout in the two days of returning to the location.

We are also pleased to report that our second facility is under construction at the Virginia Creek Settlement. Our plan is to use this facility to grow brown trout year round.

Through successful fundraising efforts, our local Chamber of Commerce is able to provide opportunities for local fisheries to receive help through the enhancement Program. We will continue to work with the Department of Fish and Game to secure permits for stocking our brown trout in the local Bridgeport area.

We invite you to visit Paradise Shores RV Park on the banks of Bridgeport Reservoir and see what our small community has accomplished. The brown trout are fed several times a day and we encourage participation.
